New Beginnings for Making a Difference

By Valerie Hon, MSN, LSN, RN, NCSN posted 09-02-2017 22:36

We all welcome a new school year on individual schedules. Many schools have already started for this school year, while others will begin in the coming days. May your membership to the state and national organization provide resources and supports to you and your school nursing practice. We hope that as we all practice in the 21st century, the NASN model will assist us. Starting the school year can be supported by the Back-To-School Health Office toolkit.  Another great resource is the interactive virtual health office found here. For those who are new to school nursing, please be sure to make connections with your Wisconsin Association of School Nurses District Director and request a mentor.

Mark your calendars for a variety of upcoming events and take advantage of the events sections on the website.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction & Wisconsin Association of School Nurses co-present the New School Nurse Orientation in Madison, October 11& 12, 2017. See the DPI website for further information and registration.

The WASN District 1 School Nurse Seminar held at the Waukesha County Technical College on November 7, 2017, Student Risk Taking Behavior: Trends and Strategies. More information may be found here.

The WASN Spring Conference will be in Madison, April 18-20, 2018, at the Monona Terrace Convention Center. Hotel room blocks will be available at both The Hilton and The Sheraton. The Sheraton will offer a shuttle between their facility and the Monona Terrace. More information will be shared soon. The conference will open with Dr. Dian Baker from California presenting on How Sick, How Quick?  To inspire you before returning to your school(s), Ryan Haack will talk with us about Leaving a Legacy.

For those who are wanting to become nationally certified, be on the lookout for the scholarships to support those efforts.

For those who are continuing their education, be sure to check out the scholarships to support you.

Be reading the WASN Discussion List postings for more timely communications about what the Board of Directors are doing on behalf of the membership. Anyone wishing to get more involved in their professional organization is encouraged to communicate with any one of the existing board members. We welcome members to be involved.

Tell us about your goals for this school year. So many amazing activities are happening with our members.  Sharing and validating each other's efforts can be empowering.
