  • WASN President's Message Spring of 2015

Fellow School Nurses, The Wisconsin Association of School Nurses (WASN) and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) recognizes that school nurses are not mandated to complete the Educator Effectiveness (EE) Evaluation System. The EE System is the evaluation process used by administrators to evaluate teachers and other administrators. Teachscape is an online evaluation/observation management tool used by the State Model Educator Effectiveness System. Teachscape has had requests by school districts to develop a similar evaluation tool for pupil service personnel including: school psychologists, social workers, counselors, and nurses. Based on the demand, Teachscape has alerted the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) of their desire to develop these evaluation tools. DPI has approached the WASN organization to be involved in the process of developing a school nurse evaluation tool that could be formatted to the Teachscape model. Your WASN Board of Directors thought who better to develop an evaluation tool for school nurses than school nurses. So the good news is school nurses will be collaborating with DPI and Teachscape to develop an evaluation tool that will mold, inform and evaluate school nursing practice for years to come. YOU CAN BE INVOLVED! After the 2015 WASN Conference, on April 24th from 12:45-4:00 PM at the Concourse Hotel, school nurses will gather to begin the work on the evaluation tool. A second work date has been scheduled for June 17th from 9-3:00 at DPI, 125 S. Webster St., Madison. WASN will be providing lunch. If you would like to be involved, please RSVP by contacting Rachel Gallagher at rgallagher@madison.k12.wi.us.
